Hey guys, Welcome back to ‘Read between the lines’. If you are new to this tag. I have left the details below or go check out my previous tag last week.
Details:
I will start by asking a random question and giving you guys my answer. I will try and include some questions from the books I’ve read aswell. If you would like to get involved then either comment on the blog page or contact me via email ( which is linked in the contact section).
This week I will also be tagging one other blogger to take part in this. The rules are as followed:
- Thank the person who tagged you and link to their post.
- Display the banner(optional)
- Link to the original creator: The Write Path
- Answer the question!
- Tag however many people as you want!
Question
Do you prefer happy endings – or more realistic?
This is kind of a hard question as I do like realistic endings, where you want to know what happens to the characters in the book, however, I have read so many YA where the ending has been sad/ realistic but I refuse to accept it as I really wanted a happy ending! I become so invested in characters life that I refuse to accept that decision made by the author. I can’t be the only one who becomes emotionally attached to the characters as well as the book. I think if we could get away with the ‘Happy Ever Afters’ in every book then it would be really boring and unrealistic- as much as we would love that!
So in all fairness, I would choose both, where there can be happy endings but also realistic depending on the book.
However, there are a few books that I refuse the accept the endings off, which include:
- Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Powell
- The Fault in our Stars by John Green
- One of us is lying by Karen McManus
- All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
- Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman
- Everyday by David Levithan
- One by Sarah Crossan
- Normal People by Sally Rooney
- Black Eyed Susans by Julia Heaberlin
What do you guys think? Anyone else feel the same way and get emotionally attached to book.
I nominate Rachel from A Bookworm’s Paradise for the tag.
Oh, thanks for the tag! Looks intersting😊

Honestly, I love endings that break me, destroy me, tear me to pieces, be it sad or cozy, they just Mark. Themselves. Upon. Me.

I totally get you, they make you think that the book has been worthwhile!
I also love them but refuse to accept it in anyway- i end up crying my eyes out so often for atleast two weeks before I even consider moving on 😭🥺

Omg yes! I have read quite a few of these, and I cannot accept it; One was just so sad, Eleanor and Park gave me an awful book hangover, TFIOS I obsessed over for a few months, and Noughts and Crosses was just why??

I totally get you there! Why do authors do that to us 😩
Introduce characters and leave us hanging in the end. I cried for weeks and im still not over it 😂

Have you read all of the noughts and crosses series?

Yes! Although I have to say I liked Jude the best… have you read Raven Boys?

Oh were you emotionally wrecked after it and thought it was all unfair!
No I haven’t actually- whats it about???
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes!! What happened to Callum was unfair, and although Jude did pretty bad things, he was still an amazing character.
Raven Boys is about a character called Blue, who’s mother is a psychic. She is told over and over again that if she kisses her true love he will die, which is fine by her since she doesnt want to fall in love. anyway. Then she meets The Raven Boys- they are rich kids from the school Aglionby.
One day she goes with her sort of auntie Neeve to the corpse line, where Neeve is supposed to look out for who will die in the next year. Blue sees one of the ghosts, and is told that she can only see it because either she killed him or she fell in love with him. That ghost was Gansey, one of the Raven Boys, with whom her fate is inter crossed. That was a long winded explanation, but it’s a good series
I’ve only read the first one, because I’m buddy reading it with a friend, and I’m waiting for her to give me the books, but so far I am in love 💙😥

No no! That was a good explanation which had made me add it to my list.
I know, loved Callum, cried so much over his death. Have you watched the series???
LikeLike
I’ve seen a few clips of it, but I don’t really want to watch it- I have a feeling it will be so different and I dont want to ruin the books for myself 😟
LikeLiked by 1 person
It was slightly different but still worth a watch. The ending was changed aswell and no mention of their sister either
LikeLike
Oh? I loved their sister, even if she only featured for a little bit 😥 She really changed Callum and ultimately I think even Jude

Yeah – it really didn’t go well for Maggie did it? I hated her having to lose all her family

It was awful for her, although I did start to dislike her after she took Sephy in. There was something about her demeanor around Sephy and Callie Rose that just bugged me a bit

That is so true, i know what you mean. I had a bit of hate towards her for that aswell
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes! Ooh, what do you think of Callie Rose? I like her confidence, but the way she acted with Sephy was pretty bad
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yep, same thought as you. Found her selfish and ungrateful after everything Sephy went through. I mean come one, give that girl a break 😫
LikeLike
Exactly! Especially when we read all the little letter/diary entries Sephy wrote specifically for Callie; you could see how much Sephy loved her and she’s here being ungrateful. Smh 😟

Hey Fajar! Tiction @Fictionally Crazy wants to join our buddy read in January. I told her that’s fine, but she doesn’t have Goodreads, so she suggested mail. Would that work for you, or shall we figure something else out?
